The Women Empowerment Unit at the University of Basrah organized its first festival entitled (No to violence against women, yes to love, affection and peace) in the presence of some official figures, civil society organizations, and activists in the field of women's rights.
The festival included many events, including speeches rejecting all forms of violence against women and poems describing their role as an essential entity in society, as well as presenting a theatrical work in which students and professors from inside and outside the university participated, and competitions with the distribution of gifts and roses to the audience, as well as distributing orange-colored posters and hats, which carry the slogans No to violence against women, family and others.
The festival aims to raise cultural and social awareness towards supporting and empowering women, rejecting violence against them, equality with men, and establishing community justice, as well as providing basic services to survivors of violence through the police sectors, social judicial bodies, and health, and releasing sufficient funding to support women’s rights by financing residential complexes to house the girls who are victims of violence and buildings related to women's economic activities.
