The Cultural Center at the University of Basrah organized an open meeting for projects of creative people with special needs, in cooperation with the Iraqi Blind Association, Basrah branch, in the central theater of the College of Fine Arts.
The meeting included the presentation of six productive projects of people with special needs that shaped their creativity and determination to manage these projects, with the university's assurance of providing the necessary support on the moral and financial level so that this segment can take its right to communicate and give to serve the community.
The President of Basrah University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, addressed this group, saying, “You are people of determination, not people with disabilities, and from today this name will be used in the University of Basrah, because God chose you in this case for His divine wisdom.” The University of Basrah is striving to play its role in serving the community and supporting the projects presented by them.
In his speech, the Director of the Cultural Center, Dr. Abdul Karim Abboud, stated that today we meet with people of determination, not only to achieve a humanitarian position, but also to seek their integration and involvement in society and help them achieve their dreams through their active projects and the university portal, the Cultural Center.
The head of the Blind Association, Mr. Sorour Youssef, thanked the university's efforts to embrace and contain this important creative segment, and said, "We will convey a message that we exist and we will raise the slogan (despite my disability, I work and learn) and our integration into society has become one of the basic necessities to eliminate marginalization."
