The Assistant President for Scientific Affairs of Basrah University, Dr. Zaki Abdullah Ahmed, representing the President of the University, Prof. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, inaugurated the university’s grand theater with a large official, academic and artistic presence.
This opening included the activities of the Children's Orchestra and the exhibition of Memory Pictures Cabinet, as well as the presentation of the play I am My Face of a group of cinema and theater pioneers.
On the occasion of the celebration of (Our Theater Today), the representative of the University President mentioned that “our celebration today is a return to the past and a dream towards a future in which we will overcome the loss. It is Basra, my brothers, the city that never dies, and its theater is a witness to the cultures of all times. Our history is full of richness and renewal of life. Our university theater is the first starting point. It is an opportunity to work, challenge, and paint images of pain in every corner of our present and future history to dispel the darkness because the (Theatre is life).
The Director of the Cultural Center at the University of Basrah, Dr. Abdul Kareem Abboud, indicated in his speech “this is the theater that we Iraqis have the honor to contribute to its universality, artistic formations, texts, performances, and theatrical events through the efforts of Iraqi professors and artists builders who praised its edifices and perpetuated its builder action.
Abboud added, "Today, in Basrah of culture, arts and literature, the theater brings us together to celebrate the opening of one of its homes at the University of Basrah”.
