The Council of Advisors in the Prime Ministry hosted Dr. Muhammad Nasser Fares, in the presence of a group of experts, academics and advanced cadres in the Ministry of Water Resources, to discuss the project proposed by him, which aims to address the penetration of the salt wedge into Shatt al-Arab stream.
During the meeting, the engineering design of the proposed project was reviewed (dispersing the tidal wave using water containers to prevent the penetration of the salt wedge into the Shatt al-Arab stream), indicating that the engineering design works to disperse the tidal wave and weaken it to its lowest levels, which enables the least available water releases to overcome and prevent its progress and thus prevent the penetration of the salt wedge towards the center of Basra.
Dr. Muhammad Nasser Fares also indicated that the proposed project may be a viable alternative to constructing the dam on the Shatt al-Arab river, indicating that the project is relatively inexpensive in economic terms.
