A scientific study was prepared at the College of Science at the University of Basrah by researchers Zahra Abdullah Mazal, Dr. Wasan Sabih Al-Qarnawi and Dr. Fahd Mansour Saqr, in addition to the researcher Maher Jassem Ismail from the Basra Oil Company entitled (Rock Type and Pore Throat Radius of Zubair Formation in the W Oil Field: Analysis Utilizing Core and Log Data).
The study, which was published in the Iraqi Geological Journal classified within the Scopus q3 containers, showed that the Zubair oil formation in southern Iraq consists of four different types of rocks, and also showed that the pore throats in the Zubair oil formation range from small to large sizes due to the great heterogeneity.
The study included studying the type of rocks, as well as the pore throats in the formation of Zubair Oil.
The results of the study reached a wide variety of facies in the formation of Zubair in units H & L. The study showed that the dominant rock type in the L layer is of the first and second types, while in the K layer is of the fourth type due to the presence of clays in a large extent. It also showed that the pore throats range from small to large sizes because of the high heterogeneity.
