The College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed a master's thesis titled (Removing petroleum hydrocarbons from industrial wastewater using environmentally friendly materials).
The thesis of the researcher Haider Kamel Zayer showed the use of black pigeon stone, straw and basil seeds in the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons from the industrial wastewater of the South Refineries Company and the Najibiya Power Station before being released to the environment.
The thesis aims to identify the effectiveness of environmentally friendly materials for removal through the coagulation and flocculation process and by using the DOE Experiment Design Program.
The thesis recommended that this polluted water should be treated before being released to the environment because of its serious health effects on the ecosystem.
