A higher diploma research at the College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the removal of methylene blue dye from wastewater using aquatic plants enhanced with bacteria.
Student Mustafa Hussein Shaalan's research included the biological treatment of dyes.
The research aims to test the efficiency of certain types of local aquatic plants and the efficiency of pre-diagnosed types of bacteria in treating dye pollution, selecting the most efficient type of plants and bacteria and using them for treatment in shared ponds.
The research concluded that plants and bacteria have the ability to biologically treat toxic compounds, including dyes.
