This morning, the University of Basrah honored the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, the children of the late Hajj Daoud Al-Ashour, and the Ashura Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Committee, in appreciation of the great services they provided to Basrah University over the past two years.
On the honoring, the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, said, “Our honor today comes to the delegation of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, the Ashura Brigade in general, and the family of the late Hajj Daoud Al-Ashour in Basra, especially for their great support for our university and their outstanding efforts, the last but not least of which was their generous donations to the internal departments for students, which included fifteen trucks loaded with furniture, electrical materials, living necessities and accommodation to cover the needs of the newly opened internal department number nine, which accommodates about five hundred students.
That this is not new to the sacrifices made by the Popular Mobilization Committee to liberate the honor, the homeland and the sanctities put them in the first row for charitable work, and we hope that their initiative will motivate all companies and institutions to support their students in our university, and we are now in the process of completing the requirements of the second wing for the aforementioned department to receive the rest of the number of students, noting that the donated furniture and electrical materials are sufficient to meet the needs and more.
Shaheen added - we should thank everyone who contributed to the support of our university and celebrate them in response to the grace they made. After the budget approving stopped for four consecutive years, we had contact with the brothers in Ashura Brigade in general and the children of the late Hajj Dawoud Al-Ashour, especially after many departments apologized for providing support to the university such as electricity, gas and oil because of the financial hardship they are going through. Over the past two years, we have been providing our internal departments with potable water through the family of the late Daoud Al-Ashour, just as they supply other departments such as hospitals.
It is worth mentioning that the University of Basrah has registered about (32) thousand students for the academic year 2019-2020 on its academic seats and (63) thousand students for the last academic year 2020-2021 due to the prestigious position of the university among other Iraqi universities.
