The Continuing Education Division at the College of Fine Arts at the University of Basrah held an attendance symposium on early marriage.
The symposium, which was moderated by researcher Saja Yasser Hussein, in which researcher Rafif Abdel Hafez Muhammad and legal judge Ali Mahdi lectured, included the topic of early marriage, or what is known as underage marriage, which is the formal or informal marriage for children under the age of puberty, and that the majority of those affected are girls.
The symposium discussed many reasons for early marriage, including poverty, dowry, traditions, laws, illiteracy, and others, and the impact of this marriage on the health of girls like giving birth, which sometimes leads them to death.
The scientific symposium aims to explain several concepts, including the concept of early marriage, the history of this phenomenon, its causes, the effects of this phenomenon and ways to reduce it.
The symposium was very effective in terms of discussion by the attendees through the questions that were asked and answered by the specialists.
