A delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) visited the tissue culture laboratories at the Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah, headed by Dr. Abdul Basit Odeh Ibrahim and Mr. Alessandro.
The visiting delegation listened to the detailed explanation provided by the center's management and professors specialized in tissue culture about the advanced stages reached by laboratories in date palm production using the latest scientific and academic techniques and for all stages of germination, growth and acclimatization.
The two sides discussed the enactment of a joint cooperation mechanism in which the FAO for Agriculture and Food would undertake the establishment of palm-growing projects to revive the agricultural sector due to its importance in the economies of developed countries.
