The University of Basrah Council, led by Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, was honored to receive the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the ministerial delegation accompanying him, the Governor of Basra, Engineer Asaad Al-Eidani, and his assistants, the deputies and the commander of Basra operations, in the presence of the presidents of public and private universities in the governorate.
His Excellency met with department directors at the university, academic figures, and a number of advisors and employees to learn about the university's reality and needs.
The Minister opened an educational hall in Al-Zahra College of Medicine and the College of Law and the Grand Theater in the College of Arts. He also inspected the university hospital, which reached advanced stages of completion, and concluded his tour in the presidential yacht Naseem Al-Basra.
Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi welcomed this blessed visit, which gave an incentive and motivation to its cadres to move towards developing the educational process, stressing “the increase in the number of colleges and departments at the university with the increase in the number of accepted students from inside and outside the governorate, despite the challenge we faced during the pandemic period, and we dealt with it with the efforts of our medical and technical staff, and we invested this time in promoting university projects and advancing the scientific and research reality”.
Shaheen added that “our university is the only one that entered all international classifications, the latest of which is the Shanghai classification for this year, and we acquired the third rank in the national classification at the level of Iraq, and our university is also considered the closest to complete digital transformation. We were not satisfied with this much, but we worked on the third dimension of the University of Basrah, which included marketing, rehabilitation, cooperation, and building partnerships as well as community service”.
His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, expressed his pleasure and happiness for his presence in the prestigious University of Basrah, which is distinguished by its academic and scientific reputation. He also expressed his great hope that success projects should start from Basra, which was the first with giving and sacrifices and gave birth to scholars and thinkers. Therefore, a great responsibility rests on the University of Basrah to top the universities.
His Excellency thanked the coordination between the local government and the University of Basrah in various fields and the existence of great integration and cooperation, which indicates a strategic vision and broad approval of planning and achievement.
With regard to the scientific aspect, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed the quality of a serious step to reconsider and develop the curricula in a way that serves students and supplies the labor market with the specialties it needs, and we are also working hard to include some colleges in the Bologna track, similar to the rest of the countries.
