The training course, in which Prof. Dr. Aqil Hadi, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Youssef and Assistant Professor Dr. Mortada Shannan lectured, dealt with the damages of salinity and its effects on the growth and productivity of date palms, introducing modern treatments and advanced methods to reduce the effects of salinity in palm groves.
The course also touched on the role of life technologies in the development of date palm cultivation by studying genetic diversity, determining the genetic footprint of local varieties, and determining sex in the early stages of growth and a study of salinity resistance genes and the possibility of using them to improve the growth and productivity of date palm trees in Iraq.
The training course recommended the importance of following modern methods and technologies to preserve the growth and productivity of palm trees for their significant role in supporting the national economy, the use of biotechnology in determining the genetic footprint of local varieties and preserving them in the gene bank, the need to preserve local varieties for their ability to adapt to different environmental conditions and climate changes.
