A PhD theis at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed the different methods for diagnosing T. vaginalis and T. fetus infection among women and cows in Basra Governorate.
The thesis of the researcher Muntaha Abdel Hamid Nasser included a comparison of different diagnostic methods using the wet swab method, as well as examining urine, estimating the pH value, using dyes such as Camza, Acardine Orange, hematoxylin-eosin, using the new culture system in the pouch system, as well as the PCR technique, in addition to immunological methods in detecting parasites in women and cows.
The thesis concluded that these parasites are widespread in the environment, which leads to the transmission of the infection. The study proved that there is a relationship between vaginal trichomoniasis and abnormal cervical changes leading to cervical cancer. It was found that histidine has an inhibitory effect on parasite growth after its use on laboratory animals, which helps the control of disease transmission.
