The Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Center at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Basra Gas Company, has started summer training for students of the Colleges of Engineering, Science, Computer and Information Technology.
The training begins with theoretical rehabilitation and preparation courses for two days in the university presidency building, followed by four weeks of practical training in the facilities and offices of the Basra Gas Company throughout the training period.
Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi welcomed the students and expressed his satisfaction with their selection within the summer training program after passing the admission tests smoothly, which led to a change in the views of companies operating in the oil and gas sector in the governorate about the scientific and linguistic level of students and graduates of the University of Basrah.
Shaheen added, “Opito Center for Training and Development will soon be opened, which will provide services even to those employed in oil companies, and will supply the labor market with youth energies.”
The Director of the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Center, Dr. Enas Abdel Aziz Al-Nasser, indicated that 51 male and female students from the third stage were selected from the colleges of engineering, science, computer and information technology, according to criteria set by a specialized committee in the Basra Gas Company, and they will be trained for a full month by working on about 30 projects that are designed in advance for the purpose of creating an effective and inspiring training experience of high developmental value for students, not only at the level of technical skills related to the academic specialization, but also with regard to soft skills such as communication, building relationships, planning and problem-solving, which he hopes will arm the student with the necessary tools to compete for job opportunities in the private sector after graduation.
