A master's thesis in the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed the effect of adding spirulina and probiotic supplements and their mixture on the productive and physiological performance of Japanese quail.
The thesis of the researcher Roaa Dawood Salman included a study of breeding a group of 180 Japanese quail birds during the periods of growth and production from the age of 1 to 70 days.
The thesis concluded that quail meat is an alternative source for other poultry meat, the addition of spirulina alone to the diet gave the best results compared to other treatments and control groups. A clear improvement was observed in the productive performance and characteristics of eggs when giving spirulina alone and the existence of a good effect on the metabolic variables and the activities of liver enzymes and the total protein of birds as a result of eating spirulina alone or in the form of a mixture.
