The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah established the Veterinary Parasitology Branch after obtaining the necessary approvals from the Presidency of the University of Basrah and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research after its division from the Microbiology Branch.
The branch specializes in teaching veterinary parasites in all its branches, and it is important in introducing parasites, their life cycle, the diseases they cause to animals, and the mechanism of their transmission to humans as well, as well as how to prevent and treat them.
This branch holds the eighth sequence out of the existing branches within the specializations available in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah.
