As part of the International University Sports Olympiad hosted by the Federal Republic of Russia in the city of (Ekaterinburg) for the period from August 19 to September 1, 2023, with the participation of more than 36 countries around the world, and within the boxing activities under the weight of (67) kilograms, the representative of the University of Basrah team which is the only representative for Iraq ranked third in the tournament, while they won the fourth place in the golden square of the indoor football championship
A member of the Iraqi delegation and representative of the University of Basrah, Dr. Ghassan Al-BaChari, said, “thank god we have achieved good results so far by winning the third place in the boxing championship, with the participation of the boxer from the University of Basrah and Iraq, Yahya Hisham Sami, who exerted a high level of skill that contributed to his candidacy to this advanced position and carried him the title.”
Al-Bachari added - Our indoor futsal team made collective efforts that deserve praise and pride in the testimony of all observers and specialists, which resulted in them finishing fourth in the tournament after meeting the Brazilian Judisho team, but each match has its own conditions, as we faced within the draw the strongest participating international teams including the host Russian teams, the owners of the land and the audience, and tomorrow, God willing, the first participation of our delegation will start in the badminton and volleyball games for the doubles and individual classifications. We also wish best of luck to our team in basketball and taekwondo in the coming days as part of the opening of competitions for these two championships.
