A scientific study conducted at the College of Science at the University of Basrah explored constructed wetlands for treating industrial wastewater polluted with hydrocarbons. The study, which was prepared by Drاطبع به شم Asia Fadel Abdullah, along with student Safa Yassin Ta'a and a team of researchers, revealed that constructed wetlands play an effective role in treating industrial wastewater, particularly concerning hydrocarbon pollutants.
The study, published in a journal specializing in water process engineering and indexed in Scopus, found that aquatic plants were successful and efficient in treating water contaminated with hydrocarbons and other pollutants related to water quality. A comparison was made between planted and unplanted systems, and all results from the planted system indicated high levels of treatment efficiency. Additionally, the study highlighted the resilience and capability of plants to tolerate existing pollutants and their effectiveness in the breakdown of hydrocarbons.
