Basra University organizes a seminar on healing diabetic wounds
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled (Healing Diabetes Wounds (Disease Physiology and Treatment))
The discussion panel included a lecture given by Dr. Maysaa Banai, in which she explained that delayed healing of diabetic wounds is one of the major problems facing patients with diabetes and may lead to amputation of limbs, as they are affected by factors represented, in short, by a decrease in blood flow and oxygen to the wound tissue and an increase in the level of glucose, which negatively affects the cells of the immune system. And persistent chronic inflammation for longer than normal periods, dysfunction of neutrophil, monocyte, and mast cells, and finally general immune weakness in the body of patients with diabetes.
The lecture aimed to research in order to find new therapeutic interventions in the medical field to reduce the risk of worsening this condition.
