University of Basrah holds its first scientific conference on patents
College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah held the first applied conference and exhibition for patents under the slogan (Investing patents is a national wealth) in the presence of a high-level academic and official presence.
The conference aimed to open investment horizons for patents and promote them to the labor market, as well as introduce society to the efforts and innovations of researchers in their scientific field.
The conference opened with a number of events, a lecture by Dr. Wasfi Abboud Al-Masoudi on how to write a patent and the mechanism for promoting it, and another lecture by Dr. Salah Shaker Al-Luaibi on modern innovations in the growth of the global economy.
The President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, stressed the university’s keenness to provide full support to scientists and inventors in various fields and to find appropriate opportunities for the actual application of these patents on the ground so that they find their way into the labor market and society benefits from them.
Shaheen added that University of Basrah attracted patents from inside and outside the university and organized them in local exhibitions and conferences. We seek to internationalize these exhibitions to include Middle Eastern inventors and expand the horizon of research competition between universities.
The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Jalal Yassin Mustafa, stated that this conference was distinguished from previous ones by the increase in the number of participating inventors from Iraqi universities from Zakho to Basrah, as well as the diversity of patents, which reached (70) patents distributed among the medical, agricultural, and engineering specializations, with (39) patents for the medical and agricultural group. The engineering group numbered (31) patents.
