The director of the center, Dr. Shaker Ghaleb Ajeel, stressed the importance of this agreement and the necessity of preserving and regulated use of wetlands and their sources, as this agreement includes approximately 170 countries and the number of Ramsar sites is approximately 2,341 sites. Iraq joined this agreement in 2007 in four sites, namely the Hawizeh Marsh, the Central Marshes, the Hamar Marsh, and Lake. Sawa for the purpose of protecting it from drought and climate changes. Pointing out that this celebration is a clear message to government agencies and relevant departments about preserving this cultural heritage of the Basra Marshes and the necessity of providing a water share for it while providing basic services to the residents of the marshes. Documentary films were also shown during the celebration, including the importance of the marshes, their accession to the Ramsar Convention, and the most important measures taken to limit population migration and reduce the effects of water scarcity there.
