The ambassador of the Netherlands, Michelle Rentenar, with his delegation visited the university of Basrah and met the president of the university, Dr. Saad Shahin Hammadi, who welcomed the guest and his delegation explaining the scientific role of the university of Basrah as the second largest university in Iraq. He also explained achieving the first rank between the universities of Iraq in the Times British Ranking and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the universities and institutions in the Netherlands especially in fields of water treatment, agriculture and the secondary manufacturing of agricultural products due to the developed experiences that the Netherlands scientific institutes have in these fields.
For his part, the ambassador of the Netherlands expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the reception expressing his willingness to cooperate scientifically and his interest in training young people especially in the field of agriculture to develop their abilities, decrease the farmers emigration to the cities, present water and agriculture programs by using modern technologies and increase training opportunities in these fields in the Netherlands.
During the meeting, the program of training and agriculture projects ,presented by the Nuffic institute of training and agriculture researches in the Netherlands to the college of agriculture in the university of Basrah, was displayed by the coordinator and manager of the program in Iraq. This program includes several courses for attending and online training in fields of agriculture and water in the Netherlands, Jordan or North of Iraq according to the previously signed memorandum of understanding between the institution and the university as well as the implementation of agricultural projects and experiments in the college of agriculture.
The dean of the college of agriculture, Dr. Sajid Saad Hassan, explained the importance of the scientific cooperation and the work on two areas. The first area is to develop and train the graduates from the colleges of agriculture in order to prepare them to enter the local markets and the privet sector. The second area is to concentrate on applying modern technologies in agriculture and water sectors because of the significant challenges in these sectors.
