A research team in university of Basrah - college of Science, consists of Dr. Inaam Mahmoud Najim In cooperation with asst. teacher Kadhim Fadhil Kadhim Al_Raheem from college of Education - Qurnah obtained a patent for producing biodiesel from local oleaginous fungi isolates using low-cost fermentation medium of agricultural and industrial waste and a US patent was obtained for it was used for the first time.
The patent included the production of the fungi diesel which is compatible with the characteristics of Cetane Number test (52.6 - 59.8). Moreover, the results of the remaining sulfur and carbon in the produced diesel is of a very low value in comparison with petrodiesel (0.04% carbon and 0.0069%).
It also included the registration of fungi isolates for the first time in Iraq and some other international ones based on the genetic diagnosis and nitrogenous bases sequencing.
