A doctoral thesis at the College of Engineering at University of Basrah discussed the dynamic analysis of bridge floors using the finite element method.
The thesis presented by the student (Huda Jawad Jassim) dealt with preparing a three-dimensional model based on the finite element method to analyze two main types of bridges with short spaces. Many parameters were also studied: the location of the load, the speed of the vehicle, the roughness of the road, the height of the hump at the slab of the straight and horizontally curved bridges’ approaches. The standard AASHTO HL-93 truck was simulated as a 3D model consisting of five blocks connected by lintels and supported by springs. Four different sections were created to represent the surface roughness based on PSD and the final results were presented in terms of the IM effect factor which is calculated according to static and dynamic landing.
The thesis aimed to investigate the dynamic behavior of the bridge and vehicle system.
