The College of Science at University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on the black fungus.
The lecture aimed to introduce the black fungus, what are the genera that cause the black fungus, the body's immune defenses, and its relationship with Corona disease.
The lecture, which was presented by the instructor at University of Mosul, Dr. Faten Nuri Abdul-Mulla Abdel, included the definition of fungi, their existence, their spreading, and the predisposing factors for the black fungus infection, as well as an exposition of the body's immune defenses, the types of fungal infections and their relationship with the Corona virus patients.
The lecture showed that the black fungus is not contagious because it exist in our environment (air, soil, water) and it does not transmit from infected people to non-infected ones, even those whose immunity is low, but it affects immunosuppressed people.
It also indicated that the infection with the black fungus appeared incidentally with the infections of Covid-19, because the infection with the virus is one of the factors that predispose to infection with fungi, including the black fungus.
The lecture stressed not to use or take medicines, especially containing cortisone compounds, without medical consultation because of their impact on lowering the human immune system.
