A scientific study at University of Basrah prepared by the instructor, Adel Fadel Abbas, at the College of Science at University of Basrah, with the title of evaluating the importance of Iraqi habitats for birds of prey as breeding or migration sites.
The study, which was published in the Iranian Journal of Ichthyology, which is classified within Scopus q3 containers, showed that birds of prey play a vital ecological role in maintaining the ecosystem.
The study included classification of five of the 13 species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) under various threatened categories.
The results of the study concluded that the different habitats in Iraq have a key role for different bird species and there is a need for further investigations to assess the habitat of this group of birds.
