A scientific study entitled (Evaluation of physical and chemical properties and investigation of microbial contamination of liquefied water supplied to homes in several areas of Basrah Governorate) was conducted in the College of Science at University of Basrah by the the instructors, Ansam Jassim Muhammad, Nasser Abdullah Helou and Dr. Makiya Muhalhal Khalaf.
The study, which was published in the journal Ecology, Environment and Conservation, classified within Scopus Q4 containers, showed that the liquefied water supplied to the homes were contaminated with large numbers of fecal coliform bacteria in some areas of Basrah Governorate.
The physical and chemical properties of the water tests indicated an increase in the average values of some properties in most of the places under study, exceeding the standards of the World Health Organization and the Iraqi standards allowed for drinking water.
The study recommended the establishment of new water distribution networks in Basrah Governorate, replacing the old networks, adding chlorine in correct proportions to the water and activating the role of environmental protection in monitoring water treatment processes in water desalination plants.
