The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul-Saheb, received the Canadian Ambassador in Baghdad, Mr. Ulric Shannon, and they discussed areas of scientific and academic cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister of Higher Education welcomed the development of bilateral relations at the scientific and academic levels and the upgrading of the level of cooperation that fulfills the requirements of cultural and knowledge exchange, calling for the formulation of rules and programs that outline coordination paths and define the premises and contexts responsible for scholarships, joint international conferences, training and benefit from Canadian academic expertise in modern specializations in the fields of medicine, industry, agriculture and engineering, and strengthening the bonds of joint work in the accreditation and classification of universities.
He explained that the priorities approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research go towards scientific twinning programs between Iraqi universities and their counterparts who enjoy global competition in the rankings, stressing that the scientific partnership can be translated into the Iraqi Canadian University project that takes into account the requirements of the Iraqi scientific, research, investment and economic levels on the one hand and provides a cooperation environment that advances bilateral relations between Iraq and Canada on the other hand.
He revealed the Ministry of Education's orientation to a project related to studying the resumption of student scholarships according to programs that focus on specific disciplines that serve the needs of state institutions in light of the rapid scientific development.
For his side, the Ambassador expressed his thanks and appreciation for this keenness to cooperate, noting that the Canadian side is ready to develop relations, focus on the scientific and academic aspect, openness to Iraqi university institutions, activate the memorandum of understanding between the two countries, develop its contents and strengthen partnership.
