University of Basrah organized its first memorial festival for the master of the martyrs Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) under the title "Academics on the Way of Hussein" in a spiritual atmosphere dominated by faith and reverence and in the presence of official and public academic and religious figures who expressed the depth of belonging to the family of the Prophet (peace be upon them).
The festival included the participation of the Islamic thinker, Mr. Adel Al-Yasiri, in a speech in which he mentioned the reasons for our commemoration of Ashura and its continuation over centuries, followed by the Hussainiya responses, which are part of the Ashura heritage. After that, the poets of the Karbala cause expressed their condolences to Sayyida Zaynab (peace be upon her), and their throats shouted, O Hussein, o martyr.
The festival aimed to shed light on the Husseini march, its steadfastness and sacrifices in preserving the religious intellectual identity and the Islamic faith.
The assistant president of the university for scientific affairs, Dr. Zaki Muhammad, emphasized that Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) took firm steps in preserving the religion of his grandfather, as he was loyal to his cause and he sacrificed his self with the highest goal of generosity.
We, the academics who spent our lives between the corridors of the lesson and the laboratory experiments, ask ourselves how to be Husseinis, and the answer is when we belong to this ancient edifice without equivocation and narrow interests except the interest of science and leave an imprint in knowledge, then we will be Husseinis and Hussein’s ideas will be enshrined in our methods and duties, and our research and projects will be translated into reality, then we will be Husseinis.
