A scientific study at the College of Science at the University of Basrah, prepared by the instructors, Dr. Wathiq Ghazi Abdul Nabi, Dr. Maher Mandeel Mahdi, the lecturer Rafid Abdul Hassan, and the assistant lecturer Nagham Adel Darwish, searched (the Geology of the Bajalia Anticline of the Low Folded Zone of Iraq.
The study, which was published in the Kuwait Journal of Science classified within Scopus containers Q2 with an impact factor of 1.6, included an integrated geological study of the Baglia Anticline in Maysan Governorate from the stratigraphic, sedimentary and structural aspect, in addition to the geomorphology of the region, noting that this anticline is being studied in detail for the first time.
The results of the study concluded that this anticline represents the last parts of the low folded zone in southern Iraq affected by the tectonic collision between the Arabian and Iranian plates.
This anticline consists stratigraphically of three formations, namely the formation of Al-Anjana, Al-Muqdadiya and Bai Hassan. Its main axis is 29 km and 7 km wide. It is an asymmetric non-cylindrical anticline.
