We have learned with great sorrow that an Iraqi citizen man named Salwan Momika who immigrated to Sweden did a terrorist attack against the feelings of millions of Muslims when he burned the holy book of the Quran during Eid prayer in front of the biggest mosque in Stockholm, caused increasing of hate act and speech, and fed feelings of threat to domestic and international peace in general and Islamophobia in particular.
We are deeply concerned about the increasing Islamophobia all over the world that manifested itself once again nowadays through Momika's barbaric heinous act showing us, if not addressed, Islamophobia will go well beyond the rhetoric and threaten every society that has the will to live together in peace. We strongly condemn this heinous attack on the feelings of Muslim people. As Iraqis, we stand in solidarity with the people who felt contempt due to the crime that did by Momika.
We demand the Swedish government hand him over to the Iraqi judiciary to be tried for his heinous act. We also call upon the United Nations, the Security Council, and human rights organizations to enact a law that prohibits disrespecting religions and insulting the sentiments of their believers, in general, as this falls within the scope of preserving global peace and harmony based on the fact that International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) restricted the right of (freedom of expression) when the expression is likely to incite hatred or violence against a particular group of people.
We respect the freedom of humans to express and convert to any religion but we strongly condemn any expression of hatred towards the religions and the disrespect of any belief held by any individual.
